Dubai – UAE, August 15, 2020: More than 140 of the most prominent doctors, experts and scientists in the health sector, as well as 67 scientific, medical and academic international institutions, along with accreditation bodies in the medical field are starting to participate remotely in the Waterfalls initiative for continuous education, launched by the UAE government with the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai (may God protect him). This initiative is implemented and supervised by the team of His Highness Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, as part of the initiatives of the Behavioral Rewards Department at the Ministry of the Impossible.
The Behavioral Rewards Department in cooperation with the consulting partner INDEX Holding, is organizing this global initiative for continuous education and specialized remote training, which aims to empower 1 million medical staff around the world, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, technicians, administrators and health experts in the hospital and medical services sectors, as well as workers in the Humanitarian Relief sector in areas of pandemics and health disasters, as part of the UAE’s benevolent humanitarian efforts, which were launched from the perspective of the global responsibility that emanates from the characteristics of the late founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God have mercy upon him), who was the principal driving force behind the formation of the UAE and its openness to the world.
These experts, scientists, doctors and specialists in health and humanitarian sector participate in the design and development of the scientific lectures, educational sessions and remote training workshops. They are well-known experts from the United States of America, Australia, the United Kingdom, Greece, Brazil, Argentina, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Spain and many other countries, with the support of a large number of international institutions enabling this project. The sessions will enhance the skills and experiences of the participants, and inform them of the latest developments in their fields, which will allow them to face all health crises and emergencies in the future.
Lectures about urgent medical fields
Topics of the scientific lectures and the specialized seminars comprehend many urgent medical topics in various fields and specialties of medicine: pharmacy, nutrition, nursing, dentistry and hospital management, in addition to many important specialized topics in the academic sector and other vital sectors of interest to society. Participants will obtain a certificate and scientific hours approved by the international scientific and academic bodies, which will also enable them to fulfill their scientific career through remote continuous education.
Amongst the most prominent specialist speakers participating in the Waterfalls initiative from the dental sector, we mention Dr. Fiona Collins from the United States, who will talk about “COVID-19: Business as usual”, Dr. Diego Portnoy from Argentina, who will share his latest updates in “Estetica Dental”, and Dr. Jack Dillenberg from the University of Health Sciences, Mayor of the state of Arizona, USA, who will be presenting a session entitled: “Integrating Oral Health into Primary Care Requires more than Just Planning Treatment Planning”. While Dr. Mark Gaynor from Spear Education in New York will deliver a lecture entitled: “Simplified Occlusal Evaluation and Diagnosis”.
As for the Pharmacy sector, Professor Peter Pitts, President of the Center for Medicine in Public Interest, Former FDA’s Associate Commissioner for External Relations in the United States of America will deliver a lecture about “The Battle Against Covid-19”. Dr. Nancy Reau, Associate Director of Solid Organ Transplantation Section Chief, Hepatology at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, USA, will talk about “Anti-Infectious disease”, Dr. Philippe Aftimos, Consultant Hematologist and Oncologist, Clinical trials Development Leader, Jules Bordet Cancer Institute, Belgium, will talk about ” Effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Cancer Treatment” and Dr. Paul Bush Knapp, Vice President, Global Resource Development and Consulting, ASHP, in the United States, will speak on “COVID-19 in the US: Pharmacy’s Response – Focus on the Clinical Pharmacist”.
As for Family Medicine specialists, one of the most prominent international speakers participating is Dr. Brian De Franchesca from Spain, whose lecture is entitled: “Covid-19 pandemic has placed the spotlight on the value of telehealth and tele education”.
From the Relief sector, many activists and experts will participate, most notably His Excellency Ambassador Andrea Fontana, Head of the EU Delegation to the UAE, Abu Dhabi, who will talk about “Covid19; the European Response”. As for the radiology specialty, there will be a number of important speakers like Dr. Marcus Pittman, Consultant Physician and Medical Director of Basildon hospital, London, whose lecture will be discussing “Delivery of care during Covid-19 pandemic: Experience from a frontline UK hospital”. Regarding skin health and dermatology sector, a large number of international dermatologists and cosmetic experts will be there, especially the famous Brazilian surgeon Andre Mattos who will lecture about “How to treat the Ageing face, Special areas: Nose and Tear Through”, and Dr. Davin Lim from Australia who will discuss the updates on the management of acne and acne scars.
A large number of the brightest and the most prominent doctors and specialists in the sectors of hospital management, public health, radiology, family medicine, medical media, as well as academic and educational sectors will be also participating to this unique initiative.
